Magnolia Cottage
The refurbishment and modernisation of this dwelling was refused by the New Forest National Park, but conclusively overturned on Appeal. The Inspector was damning about the authority and its subsequent behaviour of attempting to pressurize our clients into making an unnecessary application for a lawful development certificate.
Here are three extracts from his report:
“the Authority’s criticism of the new roof is in my view unjustified and not based on any coherent design rationale, either in abstract terms or as a response to the landscape character and built heritage of the New Forest. Indeed nothing I have seen, read or heard has convinced me that the NPA fully understand the difficult task which the architect has had in this project.”
Completed: 2009
“I consider the proposal in the appeal scheme . . . an innovative approach that . . . achieves a high standard of design and visual appeal . . .”
“. . . its effect on the character and appearance of Magnolia Cottage would be to enhance the built heritage of the New Forest.”
