This house replaced an existing dwelling which began life as a mobile home. Local plan policy rigorously prohibits any such home from being turned into a permanent dwelling. However that policy was overturned here, thanks to one of the UK’s top legal experts. Consequently permission was granted for a small dwelling and on the strength of this, the owner sold the property to our clients - who subsequently employed us to produce a new design.
Both we and our clients approached the project with extreme care and caution, not only because of its planning history, but because it is located deep in the New Forest where it is besieged with development constraints.
Our clients, as you would expect, purchased the site because they are lovers of the forest and are very knowledgeable about its wildlife. They are also extremely ‘green’ in the eco sense, so their brief to us was to design a dwelling which accords with this thinking. Consequently it was to be an extremely energy efficient, ecologically friendly dwelling constructed of ‘healthy’ materials which blend in with the forest.
