Location: Ringwood, Hampshire
Hollywood
A new dwelling designed to replace an old bungalow in the New Forest National park. This is probably one of the last such permissions granted for a contemporary building.
Situated on a site with a wonderful woodland setting, this dwelling was designed to maximise the connection with the surrounding environment.
The design includes a thick storage wall, wrapping around the lounge and dining spaces, not only providing thermal mass but acoustic seperation to the bedroom suites.
Permission Granted at Appeal
The roof was designed with large overhangs to protect the living spaces from the powerful summer sun but still allow the benefit of solar gain from lower angle winter light.
Solar collectors and underfloor heating were intended. These would have provided a highly sustainable heating solution.
