Elphinstone Road
This property on Elphinstone Road was recently purchased by our client. The property has been largely untouched since the 1970’s and is therefore in dire need of modernisation. We were commissioned to both renovate and extend the property to make it fit for 21st century living.
What has made the design both challenging and exciting is the significantly sloping site, which falls away to a small stream. Fortunately the existing property has an existing half-height basement, which has allowed us to formulate a design with a number of floor levels internally which step down towards the rear garden. This greatly improves both the connection between the living spaces and the garden, and the spatial quality of the new rooms. The extension itself is a contemporary addition providing a generous new lounge space. Its design balances the desire for plentiful daylight with a need for thermal efficiency.
