Meadens Skoda
The brief for this project was to refurbish and modernise what was a Peugeot agency into one for a Skoda dealer. The building itself is a large portal frame affair measuring over 28 x 38 metres and was subdivided internally between showroom at the front (less than 8 metres deep) and workshop at the rear.
Cars today require less servicing than those of yesteryear, so this relationship was changed so as to increase the sales space at the expense of that for servicing. Also, to add office space, a mezzanine level was introduced.
The original building contained a great deal of asbestos which has all been removed and the roof and walls have been re-clad with insulating panels, thus drastically increasing the thermal efficiency and comfort. Previously constructed flat roof extensions have been removed so as to restore the elegance and simplicity of the original composition whilst providing more space for circulation and parking.
Completed: 2017
The showroom, offices and workshop now all bristle with the latest technology, from advanced heating and IT systems to vehicle servicing and diagnostic equipment.
