Greensleeves
Avon Castle, Dorset
Greensleeves is a striking contemporary new home in Ringwood, Dorset, situated on a dramatic cliffside plot overlooking the River Avon, close to the New Forest National Park. This modern riverside house replaces a derelict dwelling on an overgrown site, transforming it into a sustainable and elegant family home.
The design is composed of three interlocking two-storey volumes, each distinguished by its height, material, and texture - a refined combination of white render, terracotta, and timber cladding. This layered composition creates visual interest while complementing the natural setting along the riverbank.
Sustainability and energy efficiency are central to the project, with the house incorporating energy-saving materials and systems throughout. However, the architectural concept prioritises connection with the landscape: every space is oriented to capture the spectacular views over the River Avon and the edge of the New Forest. Inspired by traditional approaches to spatial storytelling, the design carefully reveals the view - leading visitors through a sequence of spaces that build anticipation before unveiling the stunning panorama beyond.
