Coachmans Cottage

Christchurch

This stunning contemporary dwelling in Christchurch was designed by DUA Architecture to replace an ageing cottage in the heart of the town. The project showcases how modern architectural design can respond sensitively to complex site constraints while delivering a bold, elegant aesthetic.

The site presents several significant challenges - it lies close to the River Avon, which frequently floods, and is surrounded by neighbouring dwellings on a tight plot. Additionally, strict limits on scale and massing demanded a carefully balanced design approach.

Our contemporary proposal draws inspiration from local materials and forms, resulting in a dwelling that sits comfortably within its Christchurch context while offering a striking, modern appearance. The design demonstrates our ability to create innovative, site-responsive architecture even on highly constrained urban sites.
