Mary Mitchell Close

Ringwood, New Forest

DUA Architecture was appointed by the Ringwood & District Old Peoples Housing Society to oversee the extension, remodelling, and modernisation of four outdated flats at Mary Mitchell Close, Ringwood in the New Forest. This thoughtful renovation transformed the existing housing block into a collection of modern, comfortable and accessible homes, designed to improve the quality of life for some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

A standout architectural feature of the renovation is the use of curved sweet chestnut timber cladding, which brings natural warmth and character to the building’s appearance. Over time, this timber will gracefully weather to a soft silver-grey, harmonising with the surrounding environment. Each flat now benefits from its own private balcony, providing valuable outdoor space for relaxation and gardening. The result is a development that feels contemporary yet welcoming, offering both aesthetic appeal and improved functionality.

This project reflects DUA Architecture’s ongoing commitment to socially responsible design, creating architecture that enhances lives and supports local communities.
