DUA Architecture is proud to have designed one of the UK’s first natural burial grounds, located in Hinton, Hampshire. This pioneering burial centre design reimagines traditional memorial spaces, creating a tranquil, woodland setting that celebrates life and nature rather than conventional tombstones.
Our client’s vision was to create a lasting woodland - a living memorial that would grow and flourish for generations. The Hinton Burial Ground provides a serene, secular space for reflection and remembrance, harmoniously integrated with the surrounding countryside.
The burial centre building features a distinctive circular form, symbolising continuity and the cycle of life. At its heart stands a large feature chimney, which also acts as the central structural column supporting the timber shingle roof. Expansive glazing blurs the boundary between inside and out, offering panoramic views of the now-established woodland burial landscape.
This natural burial centre in Hinton stands as a peaceful and environmentally conscious alternative to traditional cemeteries - a place where architecture, landscape, and memory intertwine beautifully.
