Christchurch Baptist Church
Christchurch, Dorset
DUA Architecture is proud to showcase the design of the new Christchurch Baptist Church, a landmark church project in the heart of Christchurch, Dorset. This exciting development provides modern, accessible facilities for a vibrant and growing local congregation.
Appointed by the church in 2019, DUA Architecture began with a feasibility study to explore options for improving the scale, function, and accessibility of the existing site. The final design, approved in 2023, delivers a completely new church building at 51 Bargates, tailored to meet the needs of both the congregation and the wider community.
The new church design is composed of two primary blocks. The front block, addressing the street, includes a welcoming multi-purpose foyer at ground level and community and teaching rooms above. Its dynamic projecting roof features solar panels and natural ventilation systems, symbolising both openness and sustainability. The rear block houses a spacious auditorium with stage and baptistry, illuminated by a striking lantern rooflight that fills the space with natural light.
Currently under construction, the new Christchurch Baptist Church represents a bold step forward for a long-established local congregation, combining sustainable design, community focus, and architectural excellence to create a lasting legacy in Christchurch.
