This home renovation project in Barton on Sea, Hampshire, showcases how thoughtful architectural design can transform a traditional suburban bungalow into an elegant, functional modern home. At DUA Architecture, we were asked to resolve two key design challenges: a confused and cramped entrance porch, and a west-facing rear elevation prone to overheating due to excessive glazing.

Our solution introduced open porches at both the front and rear, which not only define clear entrances but also add architectural interest and provide much-needed weather protection. These design changes give the home a more balanced and welcoming façade. To elevate the overall aesthetic and performance of the building, all PVC windows and doors were replaced with high-quality timber/aluminium composites, improving energy efficiency and enhancing visual appeal.

The result is a refined, elegant remodel that respects the property’s suburban character while delivering a contemporary upgrade suited to modern living.
