Barn House at Hinton

Hinton, Hampshire

This barn conversion in Hinton, Hampshire, on the edge of the New Forest National Park, is an early example of DUA Architecture’s sensitive approach to transforming traditional farm buildings into contemporary homes. This project demonstrates how historic character can be preserved while introducing modern functionality.

Internally, much of the original fair-faced brickwork was retained, paired with extensive timber detailing to create warmth and texture. Large original barn doors were substantially glazed, allowing abundant natural light to penetrate deep into the plan. Externally, diamond-patterned vents were incorporated into the brickwork, reflecting traditional barn features common in the local area.

The result is a home that balances heritage charm with modern living, retaining the essence of the original barn while providing light, functional, and inviting spaces.
