Thorney Orchard

Holmsley, New Forest

This new dwelling in a rural setting is unashamedly contemporary. Refused planning permission by the New Forest National Park Authority, in their view the proposal lacked ‘local distinctiveness’. Fortunately, the Planning Inspectorate took the opposite viewpoint, praising the scheme from various viewpoints. Here are some extracts from the Inspector’s report:

“the simple sculptural forms would sit comfortably in the landscape.”
“I find the design is of exceptional quality which
would enhance its
setting.”
