The Bothy (Lymington)

This replacement dwelling near Lymington was designed by DUA Architecture to replace an existing home that had reached the end of its life. Situated in a flood-prone area on the south coast, the design prioritizes resilience, safety, and functionality.
In accordance with Environment Agency guidance, the home incorporates a first-floor refuge, ensuring protection in the event of flooding. Despite its modest size of just 99m², the interior features an open-plan layout, maximizing flexibility, natural daylight, and a sense of spaciousness within a compact footprint.
This project demonstrates how modern coastal design near Lymington can successfully combine flood resilience, contemporary aesthetics, and practical living spaces, creating a safe and comfortable family home even in challenging environments.
