Magnum Opus
Highcliffe, Dorset
Magnum Opus is a striking example of a small new dwelling in Highcliffe, Dorset. Set on an unusually narrow plot in an area once home to disused railway carriages, the project reimagines the site’s heritage through a bold and contemporary design concept.
Taking inspiration from the form of a railway carriage, the layout arranges a series of compact rooms along a central corridor, all sitting beneath a distinctive barrel-vaulted roof. The roof was designed to appear as if it ‘floats’ above the 2-metre-high walls, flooding the interior with natural light while maintaining privacy and a refined architectural aesthetic.
This modern Highcliffe dwelling showcases how imaginative design and spatial efficiency can transform even the tightest sites into unique, characterful contemporary homes.
