Magnum Opus

Highcliffe, Dorset

This small dwelling sits on a very thin site in an area which once housed a few redundant railway carriages.

Given this context, it is hardly surprising that a railway carriage formed the inspiration for the design; compartments or rooms to one side of a corridor, all sitting beneath a barrel vaulted roof.

The original concept for the roof was that it should ‘float’ above 2 metre high walls so as to provide copious light and privacy with a pleasing

aesthetic.
