Daneswood

Bashley, New Forest

Daneswood is a new home in Bashley, located within the New Forest National Park, replacing a dwelling lost to fire. This modern residence transforms a challenging site into a contemporary, light-filled family home that embraces its natural surroundings.

Following the fire and negotiations with insurers, funding became available to construct a replacement dwelling that maximizes both comfort and aesthetic appeal. The home’s layout responds directly to the site’s topography, orientation, and aspect, ensuring that the principal living spaces capture natural light, views, and a strong connection to the landscape.

To enhance the sense of drama and arrival, the main entrance opens into a two-storey hallway featuring an open-tread staircase and a glazed wall, providing sweeping views through the house and across the New Forest. Secondary service areas are cleverly connected, supporting functionality without compromising the openness and flow of the living spaces.

Daneswood exemplifies modern, site-sensitive architecture in the New Forest, blending contemporary design with careful attention to context, light, and landscape.
