Burley, New Forest
This project in Burley, New Forest showcases an innovative approach to designing a contemporary extension for a large 7-bedroom detached Victorian house. Although the scheme was never built, it illustrates DUA Architecture’s commitment to creativity and thoughtful modern design that complements historic properties.
The proposed extension was conceived as a sparkling counterpoint to the original house, designed to appear subservient and harmonious when viewed from the road. Key strategies included a reduced height, transparent materials, a position to the side and rear of the house, and a narrow frontage. These principles resulted in a lens-shaped plan, creating a dynamic yet sensitive addition to the property.
This concept demonstrates how a contemporary house extension in the New Forest can balance innovation with respect for heritage, enhancing both spatial quality and architectural expression. The ideas explored here continue to inform DUA Architecture’s approach to imaginative, high-quality residential design.
