Innisfree

West Moors, Dorset

This project in West Moors, Dorset showcases an innovative attached annex extension designed to overcome challenging site conditions. Our clients sought to add an annex to their home, but the property was surrounded by protected trees under Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs).

Working closely with an arboriculturist and the local authority, we identified a small area suitable for development - separated slightly from the main house. The resulting design features a single-bedroom and sitting area, angled at 45 degrees to the existing dwelling to maximize garden views and light.

A compact link structure connects the annex to the main house and incorporates a kitchenette and shower room, ensuring privacy and independence. Expansive glazing floods the space with daylight and connects it visually to the surrounding greenery, while a cathedral ceiling enhances the sense of volume and openness.

The result is a cleverly designed annex extension that makes the most of a constrained site, demonstrating how thoughtful architecture can unlock the potential of even the most challenging plots.
