Elphinstone Rd
Highcliffe, Dorset
Located in Highcliffe, Dorset, this project demonstrates a contemporary extension and renovation that brings a 1970s property fully into the 21st century. The house had remained largely untouched for decades and required significant modernisation.
The challenging sloping site inspired a design with stepped floor levels that descend toward the rear garden. This enhances the connection between indoor living spaces and the garden, while creating a dynamic internal layout defined by vertical circulation.
Externally, the extension features natural materials such as slate, combined with extensive glazing to introduce light, transparency, and architectural interest. The use of glass also highlights the spatial definition of each interior zone, creating a home that is both visually striking and highly functional.
This project is a prime example of a modern, contemporary house extension in Highcliffe, blending innovative design, sensitive site use, and high-quality materials to elevate a traditional property.
