Foxes Field Phase 2
Our first addition to Foxes Field was a great success, one of the most viewed projects on our website, and is frequently mentioned by new clients. Our clients at Foxes Field were equally delighted, the room quickly becoming the heart of their home.
As a result of this, our client invited us back a few years later to extend their property again. This time they asked us to remove their existing conservatory and provide a large lounge / social room, with exciting spatial quality and plentiful daylight.
Our solution was to add a large rectangular extension, with hipped roof which blended seamlessly into the form of the existing house. In order to generate spatial interest, we opened out the room into the roof with cathedral ceilings, which provides a great degree of additional volume. Furthermore, a large central roof window bestows the room with abundant natural light, and generates an interesting play of shadows throughout the day.

In order to achieve this form, a unique structural solution was required. In consultation with a local structural engineer, we devised a ring of flitch beams to support the hipped roof and skylight, which added additional architectural interest to the room.
