More Information
This bungalow has a simple rectangular plan form with the front door almost centrally located on the long side (the best position). However, access was via a mean little porch into which a previous owner had inserted a sliding door. As a result, the entrance appeared subservient to a large bay window which served the master bedroom. Very confusing.
Barton Croft
The west facing rear elevation was completely flat and on sunny days, the lounge and kitchen over-heated due to large areas of glass.
To remedy these faults, open porches were added front and rear. Open porches are great. In addition to adding interest, they serve to signal entrances whilst providing protection from the elements. (In this instance a consideration was that of providing a degree of protection against solar gain).
To modernise and improve the quality and appearance of the property, all the pvc windows and doors were replaced with timber / aluminium composites.
